The Moray Model Railway Group (MMRG)
was founded in 1983 and meets every Wednesday evening in Blacks' Barn,
Sherrifston Farm, just off the A96 main road between Elgin and Lhanbryde.
(Click
here for map) There is always a warm and friendly welcome to
anyone, no matter what age, who is interested in joining. Just
come along on a Wednesday evening.
The club owns a number of layouts which have been exhibited at various
shows around the country, including at the annual Warley National Model
Railway Exhibition held at the NEC, Birmingham. Presently being
exhibited is a 7mm scale layout, 'Glenbarrie', which is based on the old
Glenbarry station with a few modifications. There are plans to
extend this model for exhibition in 2004 at various venues around
Scotland with, possibly, the odd excursion into England.
The Group has a high profile within the Scottish model railway scene and
is an active member of the Association of Model Railway Societies of
Scotland. (AMRSS). As well as building models, the Group also has
an active social side which includes visits to various venues around the
country and also, during the winter, the organisation of courses on all
aspects of railway modelling.
After a highly successful Great North
of Scotland Model Railway Exhibition at Easter 2004, the Group is
already planning its 23rd such venture. This will take place on 26
& 27 March 2005 in Elgin Town Hall.
