I am descended from Hendry's that I have read were in Portgordon as far back as the late 1700's. My ancesters left Scotland in the mid 1800's for America, eventually winding up in Seattle, Washington in the 1860"s. I am planning a trip to Scotland next year and would love to stroll the streets of my ancesters and maybe even meet a distant cousin. Cheers Patrick

We are trying to trace anyone who knew Dickie Cecil (Begg-Bigg) Campbell who married Jessie (Bella-Billa) Thomson?Jessie may of had something to do with the McIntosh family! They may of lived at 3 Reid Terrace in Port Gordon. They had a daughter who was called Elizabeth Margaret Campbell.Dicke and Jessie would no longer be alive as they were born at the turn of the century. Thank you.

I have visited Port Gordon a few times and find the place beautiful.
Someone has told me recently that the Richmond Arms Hotel is closed and possibly up for sale ??

Does anyone have any info on the agent dealing with the sale or know for certain that it is for sale.

I have lived in Portgordon all my life but of all the changes I have seen over the decades is the change of community in Portgordon I can walk down the street and not know a face ! At the shoppy its rare to hear a Scottie tongue !
Though we all welcome fresh blood it would be nice to see our own young ones buying a house in the village . A strong but samll village is now divided by them and us .By all means open your arms to newcomers but you are scared to open your door nowadays

I lived in the Station House in Earl Street between 1956 and 1959. The old steam trains used to run along the edge of our garden, it was just like the railway children. I loved living in Portgordon and enjoyed attending the primary school. My teacher was Miss Farquhar and the headmaster was Mr Coutts. My friends included members of the following families: Flett;Innes;Harper (the dad was the bobby);Johnson;Shaw;Morrison (from the shop). I would love to get in touch with any of these.

Hi i am trying to do a family tree and i have hit quite a few dead ends, My grandparents lived in portgordon up until the early 1960's his name was George Robertson (born 1918 @ 23 Stewart St PG) he married Agnes (nessie)Mckenzie, They had three children Agnes, Angela and Alexander, As far as i am aware he had five brothers possible names(John, Charles, Robert/Robbie, James and William) and one sister name unknown, Their parents were John and Margaret(Geddes) Robertson, I have the names of Margaret Geddes parents but nothing about John Robertsons parents. If any one knows or has come across any of the names mentioned i would really appreciate it thanks.

I don't know about Toll Bar but the Toll House was on the right hand corner (nearer the sea) of the A990 and Crown Street. My Auntie and Uncle Janet and Alex Hay lived there for many years until it was demolished about 1957

It is with great sorrow that I am required to inform residents of Port Gordon of the sad passing of GLADYS Eileen Hendry PIRIE (nee Green) formally of GrassyBank. Gladys passed away peacfully in her sleep at Stafford Hospital on June 27th, aged 87 years. She leaves behind 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. It is her wish to be returned to the family plot in Buckie on or around her birthday on August 28th. Gladys was the only child of Peter & Elizabeth Green of GrassyBank, Gordon Street. Peter, a fisherman and owner/operator of the vessel, The Gladys Rose. The entire family are planning to reunite Gladys with her beloved home and would welcome any family and friends at that time. Should you or anyone you know be related to Gladys they may contact her grandson, Alistair Pirie on 07792 505 003 for further contact or details regarding any memorial service.
